Product specifications

The Malus Geneva® G.11 is a widely used dwarfing apple rootstock developed by Cornell University. It is valued for its strong productivity, improved disease resistance, and reliable performance in modern orchards. Compared with the standard M9 rootstock, G.11 is slightly more vigorous, typically growing about 10–15% stronger.

Key characteristics of G.11

  • Growth habit: Dwarfing rootstock with vigor similar to, or slightly greater than, M9.
  • Disease resistance: Highly resistant to fire blight and collar rot.
  • Productivity: Known for excellent yield efficiency, often producing around 20% higher yields than M9.
  • Cold hardiness: Better winter tolerance than M9.
  • Tree support: Requires permanent support, such as staking or trellising, because of its relatively weak root system.

Advantages over M9

G.11 is frequently considered an improved alternative to M9 due to its superior resistance to major orchard diseases while maintaining comparable tree size and growth control. Its combination of high productivity, cold tolerance, and disease resistance makes it especially suitable for high-density commercial apple orchards.
